A treatment plant supplying drinking water for about one-fifth of the Wellington region has been switched off following the discovery of a technical issue.
A spokesperson for Wellington Water said there is minimal risk to supply, as the Te Mārua and Waterloo Water treatment plants will continue to supply the regional network.
The issue, discovered by a duty technician who was alerted by the plant's automated control system, relates to the level transmitter on a lime tank, and also affects the fluoride facility.
The spokesperson said further investigation is a priority, and Wellington Water would provide an update at the end of the week.
