Fire and Emergency has stopped the spread of a wildfire at Lismore Forest near Parikino.

The blaze at Lismore Forest near Parikino started on Sunday afternoon and was contained to 100 hectares.

Incident controller Nigel Dravitzki said lower temperatures, and moderate wind and rainfall over the past 24 hours helped the firefighting efforts.

He said there were still areas of deep-seated fire, and staff will keep watch overnight before crews return on Thursday morning.

A specialist wildfire investigator said it looked like the fire was accidental.

FENZ said a vegetation at Waiinu Beach in South Taranaki was 90 percent contained and mopping up will continue on Thursday.

Earlier, FENZ said firefighters would be in the area for the next two days.

"Waiinu Beach Road is still closed from Silver Fern Farms Waitōtara to the turn-off to the Waiinu Beach settlement," a spokesperson said.

"Please pay attention to the road signs, it's for the safety of yourselves and our crews."
