Police launch investigation after sudden death, two people in custody

Two people are in police custody following a person's death in central Auckland.

In a statement, Detective Inspector Scott Beard of Auckland City CIB said emergency services were called to an address on Upper Queen Street at 1.13pm on Wednesday after reports of a person with injuries.

The person was transported to hospital but has since died.

Stuff is reporting the incident involves a stabbing.

An investigation is underway and Beard said two people were assisting police with inquiries as the circumstances of the person's death were worked through.

"A scene guard is currently in place," he said.

"Further information will be provided when available."
