There are concerns in Solomon Islands that a project funded by the Regional Assistance Mission to build houses for police officers and their families is encountering problems.
Under the Police Housing Project, RAMSI gave an Australian company a contract to build 200 houses at police stations in the provinces, and in Honiara.
A highly placed government source says the Australian firm had built just 86 of the houses while our correspondent in Honiara says work appears to have stopped on the houses there.
The source says work on the project has been on and off and appears to have run out of money with the manager having returned to Australia, claiming he had completed the contract.
The company has been using pre-fabricated materials from Australia and no locally sourced material.
