A search and rescue operation is under way after a man failed to return home from a fishing trip in the Mackenzie District on Saturday.

Police were first notified on Sunday evening and the man's car was found at Irishman Creek, between Twizel and Tekapo, yesterday.
The police national dive squad are helping search Tekapo Canal.
