New Plymouth district councillors have approved a new $22 million terminal for the city's airport.
It rejected an $11 million revamp of the terminal, and chose the new $22m building over a more functional rebuild that would have cost around $12m.
Last night councillors agreed unanimously to the new building.
Construction is due to begin next year and the cost will be met through airport revenues.
Last year, New Plymouth Airport handled 375,000 passengers.
