Ill discipline proved costly as the Fiji Under 20 rugby team were thrashed 53-7 by New Zealand in the opening match of the Oceania Championship on the Gold Coast.
Ilaisa Droasese scored the only try for the Baby Flying Fijians, which was converted by Tokumotutame Sailo, as they trailed by only 15-7 at half-time.
But the complexion of the match changed completely, less than two minutes into the second spell, when Fiji left winger Epeli Momo was sent off for a dangerous tip tackle on New Zealand halfback Leroy Carter.
Playing with a one-man advantage for the rest of the match, the Baby Blacks crossed for six more tries as the winning margin blew out to 46 points.
Fiji are back in action on Tuesday against hosts Australia who outclassed Japan Under 20s 62-14.
