The Cook Islands Democratic Party looks set to hold on to its Ivirua seat, according to preliminary results of yesterday's by-election.
The party's candidate, Agnes Armstrong, is 18 votes ahead of the nearest contender.
A record four candidates contested the poll in the Ivirua constituency of Mangaia, an island in the Cook Islands group.
The by-election follows the death of Democratic Party MP, Tony Armstrong.
Also standing are Teariki Heather, Daryl Rairi and Jason Teremoana.
