The former head of French Polynesia's GIP militia Rere Puputauki has been given a two-year prison sentence for abuse of trust over a failed property deal.
Puputauki was found to have spent the contributions made by about 30 others towards the project to build a property.
He was found to have closed the project accounts and taken out the money.
Media reports said only two of those who lost their money lodged a complaint.
The judge ruled that he won't need to serve his sentence in jail.
