Wellington businesses are expressing confidence in both the local and national economy, with many believing it will continue to improve in the next year.
Wellington Employer's Chamber of Commerce surveyed its members and found more businesses than three months ago are expecting to invest and take on new staff in 2014.
Chief executive Raewyn Bleakley says the upturn in confidence is a good omen because when businesses talk about improving situations they are more likely to invest in plant and staff.
The survey also found 38% of businesses believe it is harder to find skilled staff than the same time latest year.
