French Polynesia's oldest daily newspaper has been placed in voluntary liquidation.
Today's edition of the Nouvelles de Tahiti is the last one after more than 57 years of publication.
The new owners, who acquired the paper last month, say it has incurred debts of more than four million US dollars.
The paper has been in decline after the arrival of a free daily, the Tahiti-infos, but journalists say the paper has also been under political pressure from the new government.
The owners, Media Polynesie, say staff will be kept and redeployed within the organisation which runs several magazines, another daily newspaper and has a number of radio licences.
In 1988, the paper was strongly critical of the president, Gaston Flosse, resulting in its editor Jean-Pascal Couraud being sacked.
Years later Mr Couraud vanished, with a police investigation into alleged murder, now in its tenth year.
