Auckland Transport told to look again at fares

22:55 pm on 5 September 2013

Auckland Transport has been told it needs to find a solution for North Shore bus commuters facing price increases of up to $10 per week.

The Northern bus concession pass is being phased out and replaced with a region-wide Hop travel card.

Auckland Transport said it's part of a move to even out public transport prices in the region.

At a Transport Committee meeting, Auckland Council heard from one North Shore student who says he faces paying an extra $10.70 a week once the Hop card is introduced.

Auckland councillor Sandra Coney said that was unacceptable.

Auckland Council has told Auckland Transport to urgently investigate more fare choices for commuters, and to review prices for tertiary passes.
