The spokesperson said two men "smashed their way into the home" and seriously assaulted someone living there before taking some items and fleeing before police arrived.

The injured person was taken to hospital with moderate injuries and those involved were yet to be found, the spokesperson said.

Police did find a car, they believed could be linked to the crime a short time later, which was being examined.

Anyone with information about the incident was urged to call police on 105, quoting job number P059453110.

Information could also be provided anonymously via Crime Stoppers on 0800 555 111.

The home invasion comes a month after an elderly woman, in her 80s, was seriously injured during a home invasion in West Auckland's Henderson. https://www.rnz.co.nz/news/national/521870/man-charged-after-woman-in-her-80s-assaulted-in-home-invasion
