Anti-corruption probe in Fiji Health Ministry

08:10 am on 7 November 2014

Fiji's Independent Commission against Corruption, or FICAC, says it is carrying out investigations into the Ministry of Health.

It has released a statement in response to questions over a document that has been posted on the blog site Fijileaks, which appears to have come from the anti-corruption agency.

The published excerpts relate to a contract that was awarded in 2011 and centre on the former Health Minister Dr Neil Sharma.

The Commission says Dr Sharma manipulated a tender process and recommends he be charged among other things with conspiracy, and abuse of office.

The Commission has declined to confirm whether the documents published on Fijileaks are authentic.

It says it is conducting a general investigation into the Ministry of Health and cannot comment further at this time.
