Wellington's Frank Kitts Park will have its iconic lighthouse slide brought back next year.
Since September, the lighthouse has been without its slide after safety concerns led it to be removed.
In March, it was reported that a child had broken a leg while using the slide, with another similar incident reported in July.
The playground is due to be upgraded next year as part of a $6 million dolar project.
Unlike the previous design, the new slide will be tube shaped and have a twist in the middle to reduce speed.
A second, lower slide will also be added.
The slides are just part of the wider upgrade, which will take up more of the park space.
Two flying foxes, climbing bars, a waka-shaped play deck and special toddlers's playground are included.
Construction of the new playground will begin in January and is expected to be completed in September next year.
The Frank Kitts Park slide was specifically created for the park and installed in the late 1980s. It was one of the last bespoke slides in New Zealand.
