Trump budget cuts $3M for CNMI

Donald Trump's budget cuts would eliminate or cut several environment and community programmes in the Northern Marianas.

The American president's first official budget document proposes a more than $US3 million cut in federal funding to the territory.

Community development block grants would be eliminated under the proposal.

The Bureau of Environmental Coastal Quality would have its funding cut to $1,150,336, down from $2,091,520 in 2016.

In all nine programmes would be affected.

They included the CNMI Motherhead/Fatherhead programme, Five Pillars (Utt) of the Carolinian Community, programmess for CNMI veterans, Home Investment Partnerships, The Low Income Energy Assistance Programme and The Weatherisation Assistance Program.

All programmes under Innovation and Opportunity Act grants would be eliminated.
