Health Minister Chris Hipkins says about nine in 10 passengers on buses and trains were wearing masks, as were about half of people around the streets in Auckland after the move to level 2.
Speaking at today's 1pm briefing, where nine new cases were revealed, he said there were some visible changes in Auckland today.
The region this morning moved to what Prime Minister Jacinda Ardern has dubbed "level 2.5" including higher restrictions than the rest of the country - but with more activity than level 3.
Masks are also mandatory on public transport throughout the country for passengers older than 12.
