The Green Party says the Government is breaking its word on charter schools and pushing on with an educational experiment that is out of control.
The Government is launching into a third round of applications for charter schools this year, despite Education Minster Hekia Parata signalling in February that she had no plans to do so.
The Government is also reducing its funding for new charter schools and tightening the rules for dealing with problems that may arise.
The Green Party said the changes were an admission things were not working.
Education spokesperson Catherine Delahunty said the charter school programme had been plagued with problems and too much public money had been wasted on charter schools already.
