Cooks next in line to ban plastic bags

The Cook Islands government says it's likely to ban single-use plastic bags in the country.

Infrastructure minister Robert Tapaitau told parliament it was part of the government's plan to reduce waste.

He gave no date for a ban, but said he would take the proposal to cabinet.

Vanuatu banned single-use plastic bags this year, and similar bans in Samoa and Niue will start next year.
