Upper Hutt Police want information on a motorist who drove away after hitting a pedestrian.

They said a man in his 60s was crossing Ferguson Drive at the intersection with Milton Street just after 7pm Saturday when he was struck by a dark sedan.

He landed on the bonnet and hit the windscreen before landing on the ground.

He was taken to hospital with serious injuries.

The driver did not stop and police are now looking for them.

They said the car could have damage to its bonnet and windscreen.

Anyone with relevant information is asked to call police.
