Samoa is assured of a fifth medal at the Commonwealth Games.

Boxer Ato Plodzicki-Faoagali defeated Pakistan's Awais Ali Khan last night in the men's 81kg division to advance to the semi finals.

The 19 year old won his quarter final by unanimous points decision to guarantee Team Samoa a first Commonwealth boxing medal since 2006.

Ato Plodzicki-Faoagali will square off against Canada's Harley O'Reilly on Friday for a spot in the gold medal match.

There was no such luck for compatriot Henry Tyrell who lost his quarter final in the men's 75kg division, while Papua New Guinea's Charles Keama and Thadius Katua also bowed out in the lighter weight classes.

Elsewhere on the Gold Coast, the Vanuatu women's beach volleyball team went down in three sets against Australia and will play-off for bronze against a team from Cyprus later tonight.

Norfolk Island will face Canada in the quarter finals of the women's pairs in lawn bowls.

Meanwhile the Fiji netballers were thrashed 73-46 by Northern Ireland to finish winless in their pool
