A Wellington woman is giving away a Fred Again ticket as a raffle style donation to charity.
Kiera Brodie posted on the Facebook group Vic Deals on Thursday night, and with an hour until the winner is drawn at 12.30pm, she has already raised more than $1500.
The post also has over 2000 reactions and 200 comments.
Each $20 donation to one of the four charities she has chosen, is one entry in the raffle.
It started when Brodie and two of her friends all tried to buy tickets at the same time.
"In the craze of ticket buying, the three of us ended up buying four tickets," she said.
At first she wasn't sure who to give the ticket to, but after seeing scalpers on Vic Deals selling tickets for quadruple the price, she wanted to give it away.
"I'm not doing the best financially, but neither are so many others, and since I had already paid, I thought why doesn't the money go to someone who really needs it more than me.
"That's where the charity raffle idea came from."
There are four charities she has chosen: Malaghan Institute, I Am Hope, Outpawed and Donna Doolittle's Animal Rescue.
"My dad probably wouldn't be here today if it wasn't for Malaghan Institute," she said.
She said her dad had been battling lymphoma for 18 years. He was too unwell for a bone marrow transplant, but is now in remission after doing a CAR T-cell therapy trial last year.
Kiera said there were two different reasons why she chose I Am Hope.
The first for the two people close to her that lost their battle with mental health - one within the last two months.
The second was for the children she works with.
"I know how important it is to create a safe space for our tamariki to express themselves," she said.
"I Am Hope's entire core values are so important, and they do make such a difference."
The last two: Outpawed and Donna Doolittle's Animal Rescue are for her rescue cat, Toastie, who she has had for six years.
The daughter of the woman who runs Donna Doolittle's Animal Rescue in Kaitaia had donated money for a $3000 surgery Toastie needed a few years ago.
"She didn't have much to give at all, but she still donated to help me with Toastie's vet bills, and I've never forgotten that kindness," Brodie said.
The raffle will close at 12pm, with the winner announced on the Facebook page at 12:30pm.
