Buses are off the road in Wellington as New Zealand Bus workers in the capital attend a stopwork meeting.
500 staff are attending the two hour stopwork meeting to discuss the Regional Council's plan to end the city's trolley bus service by 2017.
The meeting has disrupted bus services with no services running between 9am and 3pm Wednesday.
Spokesperson for the Wellington Tramways union, Kevin O'Sullivan said New Zealand Bus is the only company that can run the trolley service and removing it will allow other companies to bid for transport contracts.
He said that could drive down wages.
Kevin O'Sullivan said the union wants the Regional Council to maintain current terms and conditions for workers.
