Taha Asia Pacific had a contract with New Zealand Aluminium Smelters to take dross syphoned off from the main smelting operation. It would then re-process it to extract more aluminium for recycling at the main plant.

The company was closed on Tuesday, and put into liquidation.

Twenty-two staff were affected, and its liquidator Rhys Cain, from Ernst and Young, said their position was still being worked on.

He would not discuss the fate of contracts the plant had with the main smelter or anyone else, Mr Cain said.

Pacific Aluminium, which runs the smelter, could not be reached for comment.

Taha Asia Pacific is owned from Bahrain. It has a sister company, Taha Fertilizer Industries Ltd, which is not in liquidation.

A report is being prepared for the Companies Office with a deadline of next Tuesday.
