A daytime drink driving checkpoint in Christchurch has caught four drivers, one of them three times over the legal alcohol limit.
Between 8:30am and 2:30pm Thursday, police apprehended four drivers over the legal limit, with one driver three times over the legal limit, they said.
Sergeant Ben Rutherford said it is a disappointing result but the police see too many preventable deaths on the roads.
"These four drivers are a reminder that no matter the time of day, drink driving is an issue.
"Expect us to be out in force anytime, anywhere."
He said the police make no apology for targeting high-risk behaviours such as drink driving at any time of the day.
