A Somali pirate has been sentenced to life imprisonment by a South Korean court, after being convicted of the attempted murder of the captain of a hijacked ship.

Another man was sentenced to 15 years and two others to 13 years.

South Korean special forces stormed the Samho Jewelry in the Arabian Sea, on 15 January, six days after it was seized.

Eight pirates were killed and five were arrested during the mission.

The BBC reports a fifth suspect is being tried separately and will be sentenced next week.
