Rookie Marcus Armstrong finished top of the New Zealand drivers in the lastest Indycar round at Long Beach.
Armstrong finished eighth and Scott McLaughlin was 10th in the California race. American Kyle Kirkwood won the race.
Accomplished New Zealand driver, six-time IndyCar champion Scott Dixon, was forced to retire after contact with Pato O'Ward sent him into the tyre barrier.
Starting fifth on the grid, a frustrated Dixon was not happy with the incident with O'Ward.
"I wouldn't have chosen to do that, but if that's how the series wants us to race, then I guess it's all gloves off from this point," Dixon said.
But rival Pato O'Ward was unapologetic.
"I'm not going to apologise for that, we're racing so a lot of the times when I've been in that situation I kind of just let the guy go because if you're on the outside you're more vulnerable to those things happening," O'Ward said.
Dixon is sixth on overall on the indycar standings after three rounds.
New Zealanders also featured in the World Endurance Championship this weekend, with Brendon Hartley part of the Toyota #8 squad that won the 6 Hours of Portimao.
