Work for young Maori pledge by Labour

09:15 am on 18 October 2010

Labour has pledged to more to get young Maori into work when it next gets into Government.

Party leader Phil Goff promised the annual conference at the weekend to rejuvenate and strengthen apprenticeships and to focus on Maori trade training.

List MP Shane Jones told Waatea News that as many as one in two young Maori and Pacific women are not studying, training or working.

He said Maori would also benefit from the party's commitment to pre-school education.
