The Bougainville South MP and deputy opposition leader in the Papua New Guinea parliament, Timothy Masiu, says as the region's referendum vote draws closer the PNG government has to do more to help the process.
Bougainville is to hold a vote on possible independence from PNG in June next year.
Mr Masiu was speaking after the Prime Minister Peter O'Neill admonished him in parliament last week, saying the vote next year is not just about independence and the PNG government will have to ratify the decision.
But Mr Masiu told Don Wiseman a collaborative effort is needed with the national and Bougainville governments working together.
