Motorcycle rider dies after hitting tree in Hamilton

A man has died following a motorcycle crash in Hamilton, while another person has died after a single-vehicle crash in the Tasman District last night.

Police said emergency services were called to the scene after the motorcycle hit a tree on Maeroa Road around 7.20pm on Saturday.

The rider was taken to Waikato Hospital in a critical condition.

He died in the early hours of Sunday morning.

An investigation into the cause of the crash was underway, police said.

In another incident, a man has died following a single-vehicle crash on State Highway 6, Spooners Range, Tasman around 8:40pm last night.

The sole occupant of the vehicle was taken to Nelson Hospital in critical condition, where he later died, police said.
