The owner of the Pike River mine, Solid Energy, says it may hold a special meeting next week to decide whether a re-entry of the mine's drift will go ahead.
The state-owned coal miner has already said re-entry to search for the 29 men who died in explosions in November 2010 is unlikely because there is not a second exit.
A spokesperson says the company's regular monthly Board meeting will be held on October the 29th.
The spokesperson said it was possible a special meeting will be held specifically for the Pike decision, but no date had been set.
