Earlier this month, the US Justice Department filed charges in the US District Court for Hawaii against Frank James Lyon.

It's alleged he made bribes of at least $US200,000 to Micronesian officials in exchange for $US7.8 million in contract payments.

The country's public information office issued a statement saying it was taking the allegations seriously.

It said it had asked the US government to provide any relevant information to the FSM Department of Justice.
