Former All Blacks halfback Jimmy Cowan's signed on to play with the Tasman Makos in the provincial rugby Premiership.
The 32-year-old World Cup winner's back in the country after two years playing for English side Gloucester and has signed a one-year deal with Tasman.
Despite playing a century of games for Southland, the Stags had no room for Cowan and he's leapt at the chance to reunited with Tasman head coach Kieran Keane, who was previously an assistant coach at the Highlanders.
Cowan's also played alongside former All Blacks team-mate Leon MacDonald, who's an assistant coach with the Makos.
