Drivers are being urged to take care this holiday weekend, with falling winter temperatures expected to make road conditions difficult.
Roads are likely to be packed for the last long weekend for several months, and wintry overnight temperatures mean slippery, icy roads will be a threat for motorists.
Transport Agency spokesperson Andy Knackstedt said preparation, and driving to the conditions, was key to staying safe on the roads.
"With temperatures dropping, the road surface can be slippery, so it's really important just to be aware of that and to adjust your speed for the conditions.
Mr Knackstedt said sunstrike could also be an issue during this time of the year.
Metservice has advised drivers to take special care on roads that are elevated or inland, as ice can linger for long periods in shaded areas.
