Raped refugee on Nauru will get moved on doctors call - Australia

06:29 am on 10 October 2015

Australia's government says it will transfer a refugee who became pregnant after she was raped on Nauru for medical treatment in Australia if doctors advise it.

Lawyers for the Somali woman are pleading with the Australian government to bring her to Australia so she can have an abortion.

The lawyers say they have repeatedly received no reply from either the Prime Minister or Immigration Minister.

When questioned about the case on Friday, immigration minister Peter Dutton said that there are clear-cut guidelines for approving the transfer of someone from Nauru for medical help.

He says there hasn't been a case where doctors have asked for the woman to be transferred from Nauru for treatment.
