Orion Health has won the Supreme Award at the 2012 New Zealand International Business Awards, with judges describing it as an information technology "megastar".
The healthware IT company was one of 10 companies and business people to win awards that recognise the contribution the companies make to the New Zealand economy and the different ways of doing business internationally.
Award judges said Orion Health had a clear focus on its niche sector of software for the healthcare industry.
They complimented the company on its research and development investment and its aggressive expansion strategy.
Business leaders Neville Jordan and Sarah Gibbs won awards, along with Vista Entertainment Solutions, which provides cinema ticketing solutions worldwide.
Other winners were panel mounting innovator Fastmount, Hokitika-based Westland Milk Products, Auckland's Everedge IP, Christchurch's Energy Mad, Sistema Plastics, and Katikati's Triodent.
The awards are run by New Zealand Trade and Enterprise.
