The Early Childhood Council says a paid stop work meeting held by teachers this morning was irresponsible.

Early Childhood Teachers from 130 centres across the country met to discuss their campaign for pay parity with other teachers.

They currently earn an average of 24 percent less than teachers in Kindergarten and primary school, with the same qualifications.

Māni Dunlop spoke with the Council's chief executive, Peter Reynolds.
