Kazakhstan has been in discussions with Fiji about providing aid.

The Fiji Foreign Minister, Ratu Inoke Kubuabola, has asked Kazakhstan to provide scholarships in mine engineering and other areas, in which the central Asian nation has a strategic strength.

He has also asked the Special Envoy, Askhat Orazbay, during a meeting in Suva, to consider a more elaborate development cooperation agreement.

Ratu Inoke also promoted the Fiji initiated Pacific Island Development Forum to the Special Envoy.

Kazakhstan is vying for a seat on the United Nations Security Council in 2017-18.
