The Solomon Islands prime minister Rick Hou says some Pacific islands are feeling pressure over their ties with Taiwan.
Mr Hou made the comments during his trip to Canberra yesterday where he signed an agreement for an undersea internet cable between his country, Australia and Papua New Guinea.
According to a report in The Australian, Mr Hou said there were pressures in the region which still has strong ties with Taiwan.
He said Taiwan is doing its best to maintain its relations in terms of engagement and development assistance.
Solomon Islands is one of six Pacific island nations on a dwindling list of countries globally who recognise Taipei over Beijing.
