Food prices have had their biggest annual increase in more than a decade.
Figures from Stats NZ show food prices in January were 5.9 percent higher than they were the same month a year ago.
This is the biggest annual increase since August 2011, when annual food prices increased by 6.6 percent.
Fruit and vegetable prices jumped 15 percent on last year, with tomato prices more than doubling.
That was partially offset by weaker prices for kumara, kiwifruit and avocado.
