'God’s plan': Nu’ulua Fa’aofo, widow of Auckland horror crash victim

It is the day after Father's Day. Uili Fa'aofo is survived by his wife, Nu'ulua, and six children.

It has been one week since his passing in a tragic car crash in Ramarama.

The Fa'aofo family celebrated Father's Day at church before Uili left for Tauranga last Monday.

Nu'ulua is at peace as she reflects to that Sunday.

"He prayed really loud and for a very long time. It is like it was God's plan," she says.

"He told me to stay and be with our children.".

He was a hard worker, he was our chef and a very good cook, she said.

Uili and his late nephew were preparing to receive the highest matai title from their village at the end of this year, but sadly, those plans will no longer be fulfilled.

"They are now Matai Fa'aofo in heaven," Nu'ulua says.

The Auckland Samoan Community is organising a memorial service for the two RSE workers and their uncle.

Community leaders are also working to bring together RSE workers from Tauranga and Opotiki to attend.

Investigations are ongoing, and Lorenzo Kaisara has created a Givealittle page to assist the families of the deceased.

Last Tuesday, the road policing manager for Counties Manukau, Inspector Tony Wakelin stated that every single aspect contributing to a crash, including road conditions, drivers' behaviour, and vehicles, will be thoroughly investigated.
