Promising Canterbury skier killed in avalanche

A Canterbury teenager killed in an avalanche in Austria has been described as a promising young skier headed for an international career.

17-year old Will Cookson had competed in the Freeride Junior World Championships in Kappl in late January.

He was caught in an avalanche in the Zwieselam, Upper Austria on Saturday in which two others are said to have died.

The student from Christchurch Boys High was a highly-decorated sportsman, and school principal Nic Hill spoke to Corin Dann.
