Once locations of interest are identified they will be published on the Ministry of Health website.

The ministry said in a statement that anyone living in or having visited the three centres recently should check the locations of interest list regularly.

The Dunedin case is isolating at home and at this stage the Covid-19 variant will not be confirmed until genome sequencing is completed.

This case will be counted in tomorrow's Ministry of Health case numbers, alongwith two cases confirmed earlier in Queenstown.

Investigation into the source of the Dunedin's person's infection is continuing.

The Southern District Health Board is encouraging anyone with cold or flu like symptoms to get tested for the virus and to isolate at home until a negative test result is returned.

The most common early symptoms of the Omicron variant are a sore or scratchy throat and a runny nose. Anyone with these symptoms should be tested as soon as possible.

Testing is available throughout the Southern district.

Earlier today Queenstown Mayor Jim Boult said the two cases confirmed in the resort town were linked.

He encouraged everyone to keep a watchful eye on the Ministry of Health website for any locations of interest in the district.

Anyone who caught a Queenstown to Auckland flight on Sunday morning is considered a close contact, and is urged to self-isolate, test immediately and on day five after exposure.

Flight NZ614 left Queenstown at 9.19am and arrived at 11.03am in Auckland.

Two restaurants and a pub in Queenstown are also considered locations of interest.
