NZ firefighters battle massive US scrub fires

New Zealand firefighters helping battle massive scrub fires in the United States say the nature of the work is similar to that done here, but on a much larger scale.

Fifteen specialist firefighters landed in Idaho last week, during one of the worst fire seasons the northwest of the country has ever seen.

Fire liaison Tim Mitchell told Morning Report the fires are in remote areas that are difficult to reach, and winds of up to 100 kilometres an hour were not helping.

He said his team was doing well in helping stop fires from spreading.
