Shopping brings home 7 film awards

A coming-of-age story set on the Kapiti Coast has won best film at the annual New Zealand Film Awards.

Shopping, directed by Mark Albiston and Louis Sutherland, dominated the awards in Auckland, and won six other categories including best director.

Newcomer Julian Dennison, 11, won the best supporting actor award for his performance.

The best actor category went to Hugh Laurie, for his role in an adaptation of the Lloyd Jones novel, Mr Pip.
