15:33 pm on 30 December 2015

A man has been charged with aggravated robbery after a Hamilton superette employee was struck on the head with a hammer.

The police say a man demanded cash from a staff member at the Holland Road Superette at about 6pm yesterday and then hit the employee with the weapon when he wasn't given the money.

They say the man wrestled with the shopkeeper before two people came to help and held the offender until the police arrived.

A man was to appear in the Hamilton District Court today.
