Wallis and Futuna has banned until further notice the sale and comsumption of one brand of French bottled water.
The public broadcaster reports a test by the territory's environment agency found that Cristalina water failed to comply with health standards.
It said the problem with some bacteria was discovered in Futuna and prompted ongoing tests of Cristalina water stored or sold in more than a dozen locations.
It is not known whether the problem has been caused in the bottling process or in the storage.
The importer is reportedly surprised at how the testing was done.
Cristalina is the top-selling bottled water in France.
