New cases include one new case in Northland, 65 in Auckland, 17 in Waikato, one in Tairāwhiti, three in Rotorua, one in Tauranga, two in Hawke's Bay and one in Wellington.

There are also 39 new cases at the border.

There are four further cases in Tairāwhiti that will be officially added to the Ministry of Health's case numbers tomorrow. Three of these cases are also linked to the Soundsplash music festival and existing cases. One further case is under investigation.

This afternoon's Ministry of Health media release did not report the total number of Omicron cases.

There are 10 people in hospital with Covid, but none are in intensive care or a high dependency unit. The average age of the people in hospital is 54.

The Wellington case was linked to an event in Auckland, and people in the Wellington region were advised to continue to check locations of interest and seek a test if feeling unwell.

The case reported in the Hutt Valley yesterday has also been confirmed to have the Omicron variant.

In Auckland, 1025 people were being supported to isolate at home by health and welfare providers.

The new case in Tairāwhiti was linked to an existing case and the Soundsplash festival in Hamilton.

In Waikato only eight of the 17 cases had been linked to previous cases, with nine new cases reported in Hamilton, four in Morrinsville, one in Cambridge and one in Paeroa.

The case in Tauranga was the household contact of a previously reported Omicron case, and both Hawke's Bay cases were linked to a previous Delta case.

There were more than 13,000 Covid booster doses administered yesterday, taking the total to more than 1.3 million doses.

Figures released by the Ministry of Health show just over 4200 paediatric doses were given yesterday.

The Ministry said that with Omicron in New Zealand, the best thing people could do was get their booster as soon as it was due to reduce the chances of getting sick and being hospitalised, as well as slowing the spread of the virus.

It said the evidence to date was that the rate of adverse reactions to booster doses was similar to people receiving their second dose.

Yesterday the Ministry of Health reported 103 community cases of Covid-19 and one further death.

Prime Minister Jacinda Ardern is in isolation until tomorrow after being on a flight where there was a positive Covid-19 case between Kerikeri and Auckland on 22 January.

Ardern tested negative for Covid-19 today, along with a senior staffer who was also on the flight returned a negative Covid-19 test.
