Intel hit by shortages

07:35 am on 13 December 2011

Computer chip maker Intel expects to miss revenue forecasts because of a shortage of hard disk drives.

Intel, the world's largest maker of microprocessors, now expects to make revenues in the fourth quarter of $US13.4 billion to $US14 billion.

Intel shares fell more than 4% on news of the reduction from the $US14.2 - $US15.2 billion previously forecast.

The BBC reports floods in Thailand, where several computer manufacturers have plants, have seriously disrupted production.
