A by-election for the Ha'apai electorate is underway in 26 polling stations throughout Tonga.
About 8,000 voters are eligible to elect one of eight candidates to be their number-two representative to the Legislative Assembly after Fineasi Funaki was appointed the minister of tourism.
The supervisor of election, Pita Vuki, so far, there has been a low turnout, but he expects more before polls close at 4 this afternoon.
The result is expected to be announced tonight.
